James Dow "Buster" Hayes, 82, of Corsicana, passed away on April 6, 2016. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmy Glenn from Kerens Church of Christ will be officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery. James was born in Richland, Texas, to the late Ora Lee and Dow Hayes. He grew up in the Richland and Pisgah Ridge area of Navarro County. James loved sharing his stories from childhood "on the Ridge and out in Richland." He was known by many for his years of service at Lee School in Corsicana and from his years at HEB. James never met a stranger, because everyone around town seemed to already know him. He loved his Blue Bell ice cream, and got to enjoy that sweet treat until his last day on this earth, he was sure that anything that sweet of a treat, had to be a gift from above. James was a strong Christian man and led everyday by example. He was a longtime member of the Westhill Church of Christ in Corsicana, and most recently Kerens Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Sylvia Hayes; and his brother, Auty Lee Hayes. Survivors include his daughters: Charlotte Biddy and her husband, James, of Kerens, Teresa Young of Purdon, and her fiancé, Jim McDowell, of Blooming Grove, and Libby Layfield and her husband, Kyle, of Kerens; grandchildren: Kristen Biddy, of Kerens, Kaylon Young, of Corsicana, Alexander Layfield, of Kerens, and Lauren Layfield, of Kerens.
