Raymond Slagle, 97, of Sargent, Nebraska, died Tuesday, August 26,2003, at the Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow, Nebraska. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2003, at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent with Pastor Don Schauda officiating and providing music. Pallbearers were Don Clark, Kyle Rupp, Mark Slagle, Gary Rupp, John Slagle, and Joe Willhoit. Honorary pallbearers were Karl Davis, Sun Tucker, Curt Sillivan, Joe Horky, Sr., Frank Vocke, Reed Pulliam, Allan R. Clark, and Louie Ropers, Sr. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Sargent, Nebraska. Rhoad Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Raymond was bom December 8, 1905 at Tecumseh, Nebraska, in Johnson County to John H. and Minnie I. (Vandcvort) Slagle. In 1914 they moved to a farm west of Sargent where he received his education and worked on the family farm, growing up with his 4 brothers and 5 sisters. Then as a young man he started farming and raising cattle on his own. On August 5, 1934, he was united in marriage to Lilas Hale. To this union was born one daughter. They moved to their home on the west edge of Sargent in 1944 and he resided there for over 55 years. He had spent the last few years at Beverly Healthcare Sargent. He enjoyed the many activities and visits from friends and family. He is survived by his daughter Margie and husband Allen Clark of Sargent, grandchildren Allen R. Clark of Broken Bow, Trish and Clary Rupp of North Platte, Don and Kim Clark of Sargent and a foster grandson Joe Willhoit of North Platte, great-grandchildren Kyle and Krishna Rupp and Jacob and Rebecca Clark. He was preceded in death by his wife Lilas, his parents, 4 brothers, John, Ralph, Wilbur and Jasper; 5 sisters, Edna, Carrie Mable, Irene and Alma Contributor: Terry Wilmoth -Jepsen (47545613)
