Bio

Mildred Lucile Murdock Atkin March 25, 1928 - March 21, 2016 (age 87) Mildred Lucile Murdock Atkin loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016, in Beaver, Utah, where she had lived her entire life. She was born to John Porter and Ida Lucile Beck Murdock on March 25, 1928, in the family home that is still located behind the local grocery store. Beautiful music was always heard coming from her violin beginning in her elementary years and continuing throughout her life. She also taught herself to play the piano and enjoyed sharing her music with family and the community. Mildred was involved in her local chapter of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and the American Legion. Planning and coordinating community events and programs were things she enjoyed and will always be remembered for. She married her eternal companion John LaVar Atkin in the St. George Utah LDS Temple on October 10, 1946, and they raised their six children in the home that LaVar built for her. She was active in the LDS Church and had an unshakable testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ. Her greatest treasures were her family, music and the gospel. She sincerely cared about everyone and was a great example through her positive attitude and friendliness to all. Her family fondly remembers the wonderful smell of homemade bread, her delicious cooking, gardens with large harvests, and many outdoor activities including picnics, cutting wood, camping and deer hunts. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren will never forget her loving greetings of warm hugs, pinched cheeks and lipstick kisses. Mildred is survived by her son, Steve (Kathy) Atkin, of Beaver; daughter-in-law, Christine Atkin, of Beaver; daughter, Beverly (Lyman) Abbott, of Beaver; Jeff (Carma) Atkin of Beaver; Dan (Sandra) Atkin, of Roy, Utah; Roger (Lisa) Atkin, of Woods Cross, Utah; 26 grandchildren; 63 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and 2 nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Wayne; and granddaughter, Michelle. Mildred's family expresses appreciation to all our relatives, friends, doctors and staff at the Beaver Medical Clinic and Beaver Valley Hospital, Matt with Southern Utah Mortuary, and well-wishers who surrounded us with their love and care during our period of bereavement. We were deeply touched by the numerous calls, messages, visits, prayers, food and words of encouragement. Your acts of kindness and generosity made our burden more bearable. We thank you from the depth of our hearts. Funeral services were held Friday, March 25, 2016, in the Beaver 4th Ward chapel beginning at 11:00 AM. Viewings prior to services were Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM and Friday 9:30-10:30 AM. Interment was in the Mountain View Cemetery, Beaver, Utah, under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
