Norman Franklin Hurt Sr., 73, of Oakes, ND, passed away March 21, 2016. Norman Franklin, son of Raymond and Alvene (Wiemann) Hurt was born October 27, 1942 in Oakes, ND, where he grew up and attended school. Norman later joined the National Guard serving for 6 years, as a hand to hand combat instructor and finishing his career being an E-5 Buck Sergeant. He married RoseMary Donovan on February 19, 1964 in Oakes. Together they had five children, Linda, Norman Jr., Roger, Ninamosha and Brock. The family lived in Oakes and later Aberdeen, Washington for two years, before returning to Oakes. Norman was employed for the Bobcat Company in Gwinner for 35 years before retiring. In 1990, Norman and RoseMary divorced. A few years later, he married Kathrine Ernst of Monango. Norman was a member of the American Legion Post #36 for 25 years and served as commander in the early 90’s. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and he loved fishing!!! He also loved to plant a large garden every year and tend to it, along with his huge yard. He is survived by his wife Kathy (Ernst) Hurt; children, Linda (Jamie) Henrikson, Norman Hurt Jr., Roger A. (Mary) Hurt and Ninamosha (David) Hurt; four brothers, Donald Wiemann, Marlin Hurt, Jerry (Sharon) Hurt and Richard Hurt; four sisters, Betty Smith, Janice Kadoun, Sharon (RK) Jones and Charlotte (Dirck) Nash; eighteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Alvene, a son, Brock-Lee W. Hurt, and a granddaughter, Richanda May Hurt. His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Oakes. Burial will be in the Oakes View Cemetery with Military Rites by Bean-Goodwin Post #36 and the North Dakota Honors Team. Adapted from Dahlstrom Funeral Home obituary
