Carol Ann Cofer McWilliams, 71, of New Braunfels, Texas, died peacefully at her home in New Braunfels, on Saturday, March 12, 2016 after a five-year battle with cancer. Carol was born on July 12, 1944 in El Dorado, and graduated from El Dorado High School in 1962. She attended Vanderbilt University and graduated college from Oklahoma University in Norman. She received a master’s of information science degree from the University of Houston at Clear Lake, Texas. She worked for Bell Laboratories on a design team for the Apollo trajectory program. She was at one time an avid golfer and very active in the Master Gardeners Program. She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Everett Eugene (Doc) Cofer and Frances Harris Cofer, longtime residents of El Dorado; grandparents, the Rev. C. B. and Mary Harris, also longtime residents of El Dorado; and Dr. John M. and Bertie Cofer. She is survived by her two children, Robert Scott McWilliams, PhD., of Dallas, and Tracy Lynn McWilliams Smith; as well as a son-in-law, Steven A. Smith of San Marcos, Texas. She is also survived by her sister, Lynn Cofer Thomas, M.D., of Little Rock; a nephew, Matt Thomas and his wife, Holly; and other family of El Dorado. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. today at Young’s Funeral Directors. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, at Arlington Memorial Park with Mary Depper officiating.
