Bio

Boner John 'Catfish' Jones, Jr., 80, went to be with; his Lord on Friday, September 29, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Phil Christopher officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Winters, directed by Abilene Funeral Home. Mr. Jones was born April 4, 1926, in Logansport, Louisiana. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of WW II. B. J., as he was known to his family and friends, was an avid outdoorsman and spent most of his free time fishing or hunting. His proficiency at cat fishing brought about the nickname "Catfish". He often enjoyed dominoes with his friends. B. J. worked as a farmer and plumber during his youth and went to work for the U.S.D.A. Soil Conservation Service, retiring in 1984 after 35 years of service. He then had all too brief a time to pursue the fishing and hunting that was his fife long love of the outdoors. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Abilene. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents and grandmother who raised him from the young age of 2, two sisters, a brother, as well a host of friends and a son, James Boner "Jimmy" Jones. Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Mary A. Jones of Abilene; Three daughters, Sandra McCoy of Whitney, Texas, Juanita Robichaux of Plano and Mary E. Jones of Abilene; two sons, Edward S. Jones of Goulde, Oklahoma and James E. Jones of Abilene; a sister, Odell Jones of Montgomery, Texas; nine grandchildren, Terryca Moore, Terry McCoy, Eddie Robichaux, Amy Petersen, Jennifer Jones, Julie Jones, John D. Jones, Elizabeth McGowan and James B. Jones; and seven great grandchildren, Justin Moore, Jordan Moore, Colton McCoy, Chase McCoy, Dakota Robichaux, Bailey Robichaux and Aaron McGowan. He will be missed by all who knew and fished with him. A visitation will be from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.abilenefuneralhome.com.
