Bio

James J. (Jim) Mezik, died Thursday, March 10, 2016, at ETMC, Tyler, Texas. He was born in El Campo, Texas October 31, 1942, to Joseph and Henrietta Mezik. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Thomas. Mr. Mezik served his country in the US Army entering the service during the Berlin Crisis in 1961. During his twenty-two years of service his assignment included tours of duty in Germany, Vietnam, Korea, and several US states. He retired from Fort Hood, Texas at the rank of Master Sergent, and went on to work for the State of Texas at the Coffield Unit, where he retired after twenty years. He also worked for the Palestine Police Department as an evidence property technician. He was a member of Elkhart Masonic Lodge #400, a past Worthy Patron of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #395, Palestine, a member of Scottish Rite, York Rite and Royal Arch Masons. When the Vietnam Veterans of America was established in the Palestine area he became the first president. He was a member of various organizations throughout his life including, Boy Scouts of America, American Legion, VFW and DAV. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandsons. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM March 16, 2016, at St. Philips Episcopal Church, with The Reverend Ted Welty officiating. Burial will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 17, 2016 at St. Michaels Cemetery, in Weimar, Texas. BAILEY AND FOSTER FUNERAL HOME
