Warner Glenn (Joe) Shelton, son of Hattie and Ben Shelton, of Hughes Springs, Texas received an honorable discharge after serving his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He worked in San Diego, CA, at General Dynamics Astronautics as an assistant foreman on the Atlas ICBM before it was transported to Cape Canaveral and other launch sites. He had the honor of meeting the original seven astronauts. In 1962 he left San Diego with his bride and moved to Atlanta where he worked at Lockheed Martin for eight years as they were making the first C5A’s aircraft. After that chapter of his life was over, he started his lawn service, where he met wonderful friends and treasured them all. He was a farmer at heart and was given the opportunity to have a wonderful vegetable garden and loved sharing with friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joyce Ann Brannon, brothers, Nevile, Rufus and Spencer Shelton.
