Daniel was a son of Thomas Jefferson and Eudoxia Doxi (Watkins) Goode. He was about 12 years old when both of his parents died of erysipelas. After their death he lived with his sister Sarah who moved to Christian County, MO. He served his county in the Civil War riding with the 16th Regiment Cavalry Volunteers, Company M Union. He was 18 years old when he joined on July 1, 1864. He would have joined sooner but he was under 18. Service record of the 16th Regiment Cavalry Volunteers Daniel didn't muster in till August 7, 1864 so he missed the actions in Wright County July 22, 1864 and Dallas County September 19, 1864. He was in all the other actions. He married Amanda Gray on October 18, 1866 and after her death he married Mary Elizabeth Lee on November 9, 1916. Both in Christian County, MO.
