Joan LaVerne (Seeger) Kennedy entered into eternal rest on February 18, 2016, at her home in Lincoln, surrounded by her loving family. Joan was born on September 7, 1933, to Harold O. and Eloise E. (Wood) Seeger on the family farm in Dale Valley near Merna. She attended Dale Valley School through the 8th grade and graduated from Merna High School in 1951. Joan was married to Keith B. Kennedy on August 4, 1951, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Merna. She taught at a rural school near Merna after graduating from high school and while Keith served in the Air Force in Korea. To this union was born five children: Dianna, Kimberly, Denise, Randall, and Karolyn. The family lived in Broken Bow until 1977 when they moved to Lincoln and presently reside. When in Broken Bow, Joan, was employed at Master Cleaners and later at JCPenney. She was involved in extension club work, Altar Society and Catholic Daughters of America through St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow. She loved to read and play the piano, loved to bake and work in her garden, especially with her roses. She had an extensive collection of angels. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Rita Kennedy; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Susie Kennedy; brother-in-law, Paul Sanchez; nieces, Sandy Bobrick and Cheryl Seeger. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Keith; children, Dianna (Mike) Whitesel of Broken Bow, Kimberly (Mark) Reinhard of Hastings, Denise (Lonnie) Johnson of Greenwood, Randy (Tanya) Kennedy of Norwood Colo., Karolyn (Tom Davison) Kennedy of Lincoln; grandchildren Amy and Curt Thiele, Brian and Erin Whitesel, Josh and Meghan Reinhard, Brant Reinhard, Kelsea and Jayme Pavel, Cody Johnson, Amber and Blaine Callison, Brandon Kennedy, Christa Kennedy, Travis and Sarah Schneider, Jake Schneider and 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Ervin (Pia) Seeger of Federal Way, Wash.; sister, Mary Beth Sanchez of Brule and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on February 23, at St. John's Catholic Church, 7600 Vine St., in Lincoln. Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park. Arrangements made by Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home.
