Bio

Although George’s grave marker has the year 1874 for his birth, his death certificate has the year 1854 (which is used above). In addition to being on his death certificate, the year 1854 is consistent with George’s age when he was enumerated in many census records. Further, with the earlier year, his mother is comfortably within the typical range of child-bearing ages (32 vs. 52), as is George with fatherhood ages and the birth of his daughter Bettie May (31 vs. 11) It is likely that the person who erected George’s stone may have substituted the year from his marriage to Bettie Campbell ; they wed on Feb. 22, 1874, in Gonzales County, Texas.
