JAMES EDWARD GERRITY of Melbourne, FL - he was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Morton Gerrity. Jim was a U.S. Merchant Marine veteran and a U.S. Navy veteran and served as a Chief Communications Technician and Radio Operator for twenty years, mastered the Chinese language while serving with the Naval Intelligence Group in the Far East, joined the Central Intelligence Agency and served his country as an intelligence officer until his retirement. He married Evelyn Feeney in 1952, adopted their son, Edward Choi Gerrity in 1955 and were divorced in 1966. Preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Joyce Rene Kolos Gerrity in 2007 (married 1967), surviving are siblings, Elliott Ricker, Barbara Wood and Doris Wood; sons, Edward and John Gerrity; daughter-in-law, Donna Gerrity and granddaughter Sarah Joyce Gerrity. A wake will be held September 19, 2015 at his son's home. Funeral services will be privately held. Florida Memorial Funeral Home in Rockledge, FL is serving the family. Published in the Florida Today September 18, 2015. ∼ CTIC US NAVY James (Jim) Edward Gerrity, 87, peacefully passed away on Friday, September 11, 2015 in Melbourne, Florida. Jim was born on December 5, 1927 in Portland, Maine to Elizabeth Morton and Joseph Gerrity. In 1944 Jim joined the United States Merchant Marine and was able to witness VE day while in Paris, France. Jim enlisted in the US Navy in September of 1945 and served as a Chief Communications Technician and Radio Operator for twenty years. During his naval career, Jim mastered the Chinese language while serving with the Naval Intelligence Group in the Far East. In 1964 Jim joined the Central Intelligence Agency and served his country as an intelligence officer until his retirement in 1976. He married Evelyn Feeney in 1952 and adopted their son Edward Choi Gerrity in 1955. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1966. Jim married the love of his life Joyce Rene Kolos in 1967. Jim and Joyce were happily married for 40 years. Together they raised their son John. Joyce passed away in 2007 after a battle with cancer. Jim will be greatly missed by all those that had the pleasure of knowing him. Jim is survived by his brother Elliott Ricker, sisters Barbara and Doris Wood, sons Ed and John Gerrity, daughter in law Donna Gerrity, and granddaughter Sarah Joyce Gerrity. A wake will be held in Jim's honor, hosted by John Gerrity on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at John's house from 1500-2000 hrs. Funeral services will be privately held.
