James Wilhite Born: August 22, 1931 Died: January 23, 2016 Joe Wilhite, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, TX, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016. A memorial service will be held at Bates, Cooper, Sloan on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at 10:30 am. Bro. Bob Arnold and Bro. David McCain will be officiating. Friends may visit the family from 6-8 pm on Monday, January 25, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Coopers Chapel Cemetery, 2772 County Road 3250, Mt. Pleasant, TX 75455. Those wishing to sign Joe’s guestbook may do so at http://www.batescoopersloanfuneralhome.com/. Joe was born August 22, 1931, in Titus County to M.F. “Ben” and Birdie Elizabeth Powell Wilhite. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High in 1949. On December 8, 1951, he married the love of his life, Anna Beth Anderson. During their 64 years of marriage, they traveled the world and visited most of the 50 states. In 1952, Joe enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served proudly until his retirement in 1972. Joe worked for the U.S. Post Office for another 20 years before retiring to work his farm in Mt. Sylvia. In addition to his farm, Joe enjoyed attending church and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and ten brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Beth; two daughters and sons-in-law, Darrell and Nancy Jordan of Texarkana and Chad and Joan McNeely of Mt. Pleasant; a son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Nancy Wilhite of Apex, NC; a sister and brother-in-law, Dean and Margaret Shumate of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren Chris and Annie Mackay of Fuquay-Varina, NC; Carrie Shankle of Texarkana; Joey Shankle of Abilene; Kevin Wilhite of Apex, NC; Nathan Cameron of Mt. Pleasant; Jerrod Cameron and his fiancé Kathleen Smith of Corsicana, TX; Andrew Cameron of Mt. Pleasant, TX; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A special thank you to Chambers Home Health, Heart to Heart Hospice, Dr. Troyce Williams, Dr. Roger Stuart, and Dr. Nayyar Syed in Mt. Pleasant for their loving care and support.
