Bio

From contributor 48275129: Their suggestion: ------------------------- BETTIE JANE FAVOR, 76, passed away peacefully at her home on September 28, 2009 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Bettie was born on August 26, 1933 to Joseph and Lottie Cervenka. In addition to her parents, She was preceded in death by husband Dr. A. Everette Favor, daughters Kimberly Kay Favor and Ricki Rae (Favor) Harvey. Bettie is survived by her brothers Lee Roy Cervenka and his wife Doris and Bennie Cervenka and his wife Kathy; her sons Joe Favor and his wife Thamer, Brent Favor and his wife Trina and her beloved grandchildren David and Chris Harvey, Thamer Kay and Everette Favor, Nikki, Sean and Ashley Favor. During her early years of marriage, Bettie helped put her husband through dental school, working at Humble Oil and later on at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company where she earned the title of "Ms. Southwestern Bell" in 1953. She eventually left her career to concentrate on her family full-time. Bettie was a devoted mother and an even more involved grandmother (aka: "Nanny"). Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She made a point of attending all of their activities, kept up with birthdays and knew each of her grandchildren's favorite dessert, which she made for special occasions. The holidays were always special at "Nanny's" and she prepared extravagant holiday menus weeks in advance in great anticipation of the family gatherings. Bettie loved to garden, try out new recipes and shop, mostly for others. Despite staying very active during the day, she was a true "night owl", often found up late at night talking on the phone to family and friends to catch up on what she might have missed that day or even mopping the floor at midnight. During the summer months, Bettie loved to spend time combing the beaches in Galveston for shark's teeth or "crabbing" for her special seafood dish. Although Bettie will be dearly missed by her family, they take great solace in the fact that she has finally rejoined her beloved daughters Kim and Ricki. The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to all of the close friends that supported Bettie though out her illness with a special thanks to her devoted caregivers Ms. Sharon Moore and Ms. Suzette Chung as well as the kind ministers and staff at Chapelwood United Methodist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be her brothers Lee Roy and Bennie Cervenka and her grandsons David and Chris Harvey, Sean and Everette Favor. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o'clock until nine o'clock in the evening on Wednesday, the 30th of September 2009 at 2200 Wilcrest Dr. at the corner of Wilcrest Drive and Olympia. in Houston. A private graveside service will be held with the family prior to the church service. After the burial, a celebration of her life will take place at one o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 1st of October 2009 in the Sanctuary at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay Dr. in Houston. A reception will follow in the church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Chapelwood United Methodist Church Kitchen Ministry in memory of Bettie Favor.
