The funeral for Eugene R. Wesely, 71, of Cedar Bluffs was held this morning at St. George Catholic Church in Morse Bluff. He died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont. He was born March 17, 1931, in Fremont. He attended District 34 School in rural Cedar Bluffs. He farmed near Malmo until moving to a farm west of Cedar Bluffs where he continued farming. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from Nov. 8, 1951, to Aug. 7, 1953. He received the Korean Service Medal with one bronze star, Combat Infantry Badge, the Purple Heart and the United Nations Service Medal. He married Maxine M. Fencl on Aug. 25, 1953, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cedar Hill, near Morse Bluff. She died Dec. 31, 1991. He married Ruby Matthies on July 1, 1998, in Wahoo. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Cedar Hill, Knights of Columbus Council 3736 of North Bend, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8223 of North Bend, American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff and Fraternal Order of Eagles 200 of Fremont. Survivors include: his wife, Ruby; a son, Richard (and wife, Amber) Wesely of Cedar Bluffs; two daughters, Monica (Mrs. David) Glodowski of Ames and Carolyn (Mrs. Kenneth) Rezac of Fremont; two stepsons, Chris (and wife, Jennifer) Matthies of Stanton and Mark Matthies of Clarkson; a stepdaughter, Kim Maltby of Rock Island, Ill.; two brothers, Frank (and wife, Irene) Wesely of Malmo and Ben (and wife, Marge) Wesely Jr. of North Bend; five grandchildren, Aaron and Chad Glodowski of Ames, Amanda and Amy Rezac of Fremont and Sam Wesely of Cedar Bluffs; and four stepgreat-grandchildren, Skyler and Kaylin Maltby of Rock Island, Kaylee Matthies of Stanton and Dustin Matthies of Hartington. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Mary (Humlicek) Wesely, and his wife, Maxine. The Revs. David Davis and Troy Schweiger officiated today's service. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, near Morse Bluff, with military graveside services conducted by members of American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff, V.F.W. Post 854 and AmVets Post 20, both of North Bend. Honorary pallbearers were Aaron and Chad Glodowski, Amanda and Amy Rezac and Sam Wesely.
