Helen Louise Stephon, 86, formerly of New Philadelphia, died peacefully, Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, in New Dawn Retirement Center at Dover. A daughter of the late Wilhelmina "Billie" Zwoll, Helen was born Feb. 18, 1929, at Akron, Ohio. Helen attended the former Lincoln High School at Canton and was employed for 30 years at Himes Trailer Sales at Strasburg. She was a longtime member of First Christian Church at New Philadelphia where she was a member of the Master Builders Class and sang in the church choir. Additionally, she was member of AARP and the Red Hat Society. For many years, Helen was a familiar face at Little Theatre; she was in a number of productions and also assisted back stage. In her free time, Helen enjoyed playing cards with her friends, camping, bowling, and singing at local nursing homes. Helen is survived by her four children: Charles W. (Becky) Stephon of Massillon, Barbara E. Henry of Massillon, Patricia A. (Terry) Crescio of Dover, and Julie M. Stephon of New Philadelphia; six grandchildren: Melissa (Dave) Nettleton, Miranda (Dave) Squibs, Ann Marie (Brian) Byer, Vernon Girt, Michelle Crescio, and Andrew Stephon; as well as 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles C. Stephon, Jr., whom she shared 48 years of marriage prior to his passing in 1995; her step-father, John Hayward; and her half-brother, Harry Koger. The family will greet guests on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, from 5-7 P.M. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Jim Borton will lead a service celebrating Helen's life in the First Christian Church on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Following services, all are invited to return to the church Social Hall for a time of food and fellowship.
