Bio

Claudia Guy (Allen) Williams, age 96, of Lubbock, Texas, peacefully passed away on Monday, January 4, 2016. Claudia was born on January 7, 1919. Her early life, one of four children of Oliver and Roberta Allen, was spent in the Moran and Putnam, Texas area. After completing nursing school at Hendrick Memorial Hospital in Abilene, Texas, and about the time Pearl Harbor was attacked, like many other American youth, she joined the U.S. Army to serve as a Registered Nurse, caring for wounded American soldiers in India. A fond memory of Claudia's was an opportunity to visit Mahatma Gandhi in Bombay in 1943 along with some of the hospital's medical staff. She married Robert D. Williams (now deceased) on December 29, 1946. Following the war experience, she remained in nursing. Later she became Director of Nurses at Hudspeth Hospital in Sonora, Texas, and then became Director of Nurses at Cogdell Hospital in Snyder, Texas, before retiring. Claudia is survived by 2 daughters, Jan Fritz and Jean Allen (and husband Woody), all of Lubbock; 1 son, Joe Williams (and wife Pam) of Baird; 6 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
