Burial site is in the middle of owner's plowed field.
Son of Martin S. Wells and Sarah Marshall David Jones Wells and Florentine Morgan Wells (my 4x great grandparents) are buried in a field on property they once owned in Bedford County, VA. John Dickerson Wells bought and had a marker erected in the field. The current owner of the property knocked it over while working the field. Then someone, perhaps Lawrence Wells , had pipes placed around and over the marker to keep it from being knocked over. The marker has dates that are thought to be incorrect: David Jones Wells b.1814 d.1897, (ea. date 2 yrs. early), and Florentine Morgan Wells b.1821 (1 yr. early) d. 1907. David Jones Wells was a brick mason, and did brick work on Mt. Olivet Church, est. 1832, Bedford Co., VA. He made the bricks and built the church. When finished he stood on top and played his fiddle! (As told by Nancy Kendrick Newman) David Jones Wells was known to drink alcohol. On one occasion as he was going to town, his wife warned him not to get drunk. He did, and while drunk, co-signed a note for someone. He subsequently lost all his property, and would have been homeless, but his son, David Lee Wells , bought the home and a few acres so they would have a home. (As told by Elizabeth Teass )
