Martha and John Wharton married 1 Feb 1866.They had two daughters, Lida Wharton Gray,buried in Riverside, husband, Wiley Gray, buried in Brewer Cemetery. Daughter, Annie Wharton Macon, husband Eugene L. Macon, lived in Cannon, Tn."North American, Family Histories" ------------- From the History of Woodbury "John Henry Wharton, was born in 1835. He was one of the pioneer merchants of Woodbury, going into business at the age of 16 years and continuing without interruption, save for the Civil War, in which he enlisted and fought valiantly in For rest's Cavalry. His brothers, George and Samuel C. Wharton, were lieutenants in the infantry. He was married in 1866 to Martha Hanie Wheeler, daughter of David Wheeler and Caroline Rushing Wheeler, of Shelbyville, Tennessee. David Wheeler was one of the largest land and slave owners of Bedford County. His wife, Caroline Rushing, was a granddaughter of Richard S. Keele, one of the heroes who fought at King's Mountain under Col. Shelby. J. H. Wharton retired to his farm in 1888. He led a clean, upright, Christian life. He was very quiet and retiring, but firm in his convictions, and adhered to them unwaveringly. He was a great lover of nature and knew most all native trees and birds. He was a constant reader and well posted on all countries and events. He passed on to his reward December 8, 1926, at the age of 91 years."
