Ben F. Chapman Ben passed away September 4, 2006. He was born April 10, 1923 in Temple, Texas, son of Benjamin Franklin Chapman and Susan Casparis Chapman. Ben graduated from Temple High School and then attended Texas A&M for one year and one semester. Ben was a World War II veteran having served in the Army Air Corps from January 1943 to February 1946. After his discharge he returned to Texas A&M and graduated Class of '45 in 1949. He married Mary Nell Carter in Elgin, Texas on April 8, 1950. They lived in Muleshoe, Texas from 1950 to 1986. He owned and operated Chapman Supply Company in Muleshoe. Ben is survived by his wife Mary Nell of Elgin. He is also survived by their two children, a daughter, Martha Jane Bernatis and husband Mike of Plano, and a son Bill Chapman and wife Cheryl of Humble. Ben is also survived by two grandsons, Clint Bernatis and Kyle Bernatis; and two granddaughters, Katherine Chapman and Adrienne Chapman. He is also survived by one sister, Madeline Chapman Gilley. Ben and Mary Nell were members of the First United Methodist Church of Elgin. Ben was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Alton Chapman and Dwight Chapman and a sister, Louise Chapman Oliver. Funeral services were Thursday, September 7, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church of Elgin with Pastor Jim McClain officiating. Burial followed in the Elgin Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers are Vince Dungan, John Cornelius, John McKamie, Jerry Powell, Lynn Bledsoe and Ray Worsham. Arrangements were by Elgin Funeral Home, 712 North Ave. C, Elgin, TX 78621.
