Alvin was the first-born and one of nine children born to Kristine Ludmilla and Frank J. Sedlak; his siblings were , Norman, Edwin, Marcella "Marcy", Maxine, Marian, Marlene, Mary Lou and Melvene. In 1930, the family was living in Brainard, NE. In 1940, they were living in Gilmore, NE.
