Lawton Constitution, Sun., Sept. 3, 2006 Walters - Funeral for JESSIE L. WAMPLER, 96, Walters, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Walters, with the Rev. Stanley Baker, officiating. Mr. Wampler died Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, in Temple. Burial will be in the Walters Cemetery under direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home. He was born Nov. 13, 1909, to Tennie Walter and Allie Sliger Wampler in Weatherford, Texas. He came from Texas with his family at the age of 9, making their home west of Walters. He married Katie Viola Smith on Dec. 16, 1933, at Walters. They made their home in the Emerson area west of Walters, where he was engaged in farming and did some carpentry work. They eventually moved to town in 1962 and he took a job with the turnpike maintenance crew, employed there for nine years. After retiring, he traveled the area, delivering transmissions for his son's shop in Walters. He joined the Emerson Baptist Church in January 1949, and was baptized in August. He also served as the church's Sunday school superintendent. He later moved his membership to First Baptist Church. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jessie Dale and Annie Wampler, Walters; a daughter and son-in-law, Quetha Jean and Clarence Cobb, Lawton; five grandchildren: Vickie Fobes, Pratt, Kan., Steven Dale Wampler, Sandra Gale Anderson and Beverly Diane Anderson, all of Walters, and Gary Jones, Owasso; 11 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; special family friend, Susie Bates, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2000; and all of his brothers and sisters.
