Don Blanchard, 85, of Gatesville, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2015, in Gatesville. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at Scott’s Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Kurt Fuessel officiating. Burial will follow in Restland Cemetery. Don was born in the vanished community of Turnover Creek in Coryell County, now part of Ft. Hood, to the late Newland Jack and Clara Knight Blanchard. He went to school in the Turnover Creek and Ewing communities. Don married Alice Ann Fairchild on June 28, 1949. They resided in west Texas and Lake Jackson before moving back home to Gatesville in 1979. Don was a carpenter and worked in home and commercial construction, retiring from CSS Construction in 2001. He owned and operated Don’s Plants & Things in Lake Jackson and later in Gatesville and currently Don’s Woodcrafts on Main Street in Gatesville. He was a member of Mountain Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Bill Jack Blanchard, Eugene Blanchard, Wayne Blanchard, and Doyle Blanchard. Don is survived by his wife of 66 years, Alice Ann Blanchard; daughters: Vickie Collins and husband, David, of Lake Jackson, Beverly Schoen, of Gatesville, and Stacy Whittenburg and husband, Ricky, of Gatesville; sons, Randy Blanchard and wife, Debbie, and Chris Blanchard, of Gatesville; grandchildren: Amanda Clarke, Heath Collins, Branda Stewart, Kristen Crawford, Erin Brown, Whitney Magee, Chase Blanchard, Chelsea Malden, Mallorie Garrett, and Destany Blanchard; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and relatives.
