Barbara Alta Brimer was born on November 16, 1859 in Tennessee, the daughter of Vineyard Rotes Brimer and Rhoda Miller. On January 19, 1877, Barbara married Samuel Henderson Ellison in Jefferson County, Tennessee. Together they had the following children: Della Jane Ellison, William Carl Ellison, Julia Ann Ellison, James Vineyard Ellison, and Minnie Rhoda Ellison.
