Dr. James "Mack" McLaurin, 83, of Hamburg died Sunday, September 18, 2005, at the North Monroe Medical Center in Monroe, Louisiana. A native of Elaine, a resident of Hamburg for the past five years and a former resident of Stuttgart, he was a retired veterinarian for the United States Department of Agriculture. A U. S. Air Force pilot during World War II, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hamburg and a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Stuttgart where he was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir for many years. He was the football announcer for the Stuttgart Ricebirds for many years, coached Little League baseball and was a literacy teacher. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Syble Pylant McLaurin of Hamburg; two daughters, Debbie Sanderlin and husband Larry of Hamburg and Harriett Howard and husband Marlin of Dumas; a brother, Elbert McLaurin of Germantown, TN; four grandchildren, Donna Godwin of Plano, TX, Jay Nucklos of Akin, S.C., Jesse Densmore of Hamburg and Jayne Sanderlin of Fayetteville; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter Mayes and Aubrey Godwin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Vera Adams McLaurin. Grave-side funeral services and burial were planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, at the Best Cemetery in Star City with Rev. Gary Harrison officiating. Honorary pallbearers were to be Vincent "Buddy" Sokora, Berzent Blagg, Bob Galloway, Howard Eddins, Doug Hart, Kevin and Robby Pond, Gary Woods and Jimmy Sokora.
