Helen Cavanaugh Ray, 90, of Amarillo died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Ziehmer, pastor of First Christian Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Ray was born Jan. 24, 1916, in Anness, Kan., to James and Bessie Pickens. She had lived in Amarillo since 1941. She graduated from Amarillo College. She worked for Dr. Jan Werner Sr. from 1961 until 1975 as a vocational licensed nurse. She was a member of First Christian Church and Daughters of the Nile No. 70 Avihk Temple. She married Bert Cavanaugh in 1937 in El Dorado, Kan., and he died in 1970. She married Johnnie F. Ray in 1976 in Amarillo, and he died in 1981. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Graves. Survivors include a sister, Shirley Moran of Aurora, Colo.; a niece; and five nephews.
