Obituary from Deseret News (Salt Lake City, UT) - October 25, 2001: Audrey Jean Goates DeYoung returned home to her Heavenly Family on October 23, 2001. Audrey was born on July 11, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lesley and Leda Kirkham Goates. She was married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 1, 1951 to Lewis Henry DeYoung. She was educated at South High School and the University of Utah. She worked as a secretary in private business for 12 years and in Rehabilitation for the State of Utah for 15 years for Social Services, Utah State Probation and Parole, and Utah Services for the Blind. She retired in 1995. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held positions in all the organizations beginning at age 14. She taught gospel lessons and directed music for many years. She loved the hymns. Her special interests were in music, poetry, record keeping and journals. She sang in a ladies quartet for over 25 years which she loved very much. She created over 40 Books of Remembrance and equally that many photo albums for her family and grandchildren. She worked in the PTA, Cub Scouts, March of Dimes, and participated in other community services. She wrote four books of poetry and enjoyed writing. She loved her family and especially the grandchildren and they were her greatest loves. She loved babies, flowers and music and was an avid Utah Jazz fan. She is survived by her husband, four sons and two daughters all of the Salt Lake City area: Lewis H. DeYoung, II (Lillie Ann), Rebecca Jean Gibb (Charles), Lesley B. DeYoung, Linda Helen Heaton (Grant Jr.), Laury B. DeYoung (Christy) and Lyndon C. DeYoung (Jaelene); 19 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, two brothers, L. Brent Goates and Bruce L. Goates and many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Eulala Louise Goates and Helen Goates Bird. Funeral service will be held on October 27th in the East Mill Creek First Ward chapel, 2702 E. Evergreen Avenue. (3435 South) Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S. Highland Drive.
