Bio

It is with great sorrow that we share the passing of our beloved Mama and Grandmama. Betty Grace (Gunter) Pipal Jarrett, 86, of Columbia, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015, following a long struggle with Alzheimer's and a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Born Dec. 16, 1928, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Phillip Pinckney and Virginia Grace (Spear) Gunter. Betty was married to Harold Gray Jarrett on Jan. 21, 1955. Betty will be remembered for her love of children, crocheting, and her passion for dancing and music. Surviving are her children, Linda Pipal (Dan) Davis, Michael Robert Jarrett, Rebecca Jarrett (Jerry Jr) Barnwell, Steven Harold (Libby) Jarrett and Lisa Annette Jarrett. Surviving grandchildren are Jennifer Davis (Teddy) Bair, Danielle Davis (Scott) Bernth, Shelley Jarrett (Layne) Streeter, Amanda Jarrett, Jesse (Brittany) Jarrett, Christopher Jarrett, Jerry (Tracey) Barnwell III, Jason (Aisha) Barnwell, Joshua (Meghan) Jarrett; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband and children Betty Marie 'Betsy' Pipal and Frank Edward Jarrett. Special remembrances for the families of Noel Morphis and Ken Moore. Services will be held at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, on Sunday, Nov. 15, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends following the interment at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons. A special thank you goes to the physicians from Senior Primary Care and to the nurses, techs, and hospice staff on 6 West at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital.
