Bio

Evelyn Werner Hajek of Victoria went to be with her Lord Friday, November 13, 2015 at the age of 86. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and was affectionately known as "Maimie" by her grandsons, Ryan and Todd Thompson and her friends, and "Aunt Ebie" to her nieces and nephews. Evelyn was born September 12, 1929 in Shiner to the late John and Mary Svatek Werner. She graduated from St. Ludmilla's Academy in 1947 and went to work for Dr. Frank M. Wagner as his secretary at The Wagner Clinic in Shiner. She also did work for the Wagner Hospital. Evelyn married Gene J. Hajek on May 20, 1950 in Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner with Rev. John Wagner officiating at the beautiful ceremony. Gene Jr. and Peggy Jean were born to this union. Evelyn was a long time choir member. She and her three sisters sang at various functions. She was a member of the KJZT Society #5 and the Catholic Daughters Court of St. Ann. Evelyn was passionate about sewing, cooking and baking. Evelyn was known for her donations of her delectable poppy seed and Italian Crème cakes to church and school festivals and functions. She won first place at the Czech Heritage Society baking contest 2 years in a row with her poppy seed cakes and rolls. In 2002 she was commissioned to design and complete tapestries to hang on the sides of the altar in Our Lady of Victory Cathedral. She was so proud to see them hanging in the church. She truly loved her God and the Blessed Virgin Mary. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gene and her son, Gene Jr.; sisters, Janice Hessler and Lorene Kasper; sisters-in-law, Carrie Hajek and Trudy Hajek; brothers-in-law Emil Hajek and Johnny Hajek.
