Son of Frank Rudolph Jarosek and Anna Marie Urbanek. Married Virginia Olivia Montagna, in 1947. Father of 6 children. John enlisted 26 Jan 1946 in The US Army. Medicine Branch, Technician 3rd Grade . He was a front line medic. During WWII he also was in the 14th Armored Division- Liberators in Germany. He also served during Korea. Retired Staff Sargeant. When the Air Force became its own branch, John joined the Air Force, approx. 1948 and retired from the Air Force. Always had a smile and a joke to tell. Big sports fan and attended the San Antonio baseball games at every opportunity. Loved to fish and had quite a green thumb. Loved to plant pecan trees. MSGT John Frank Jarosek, U.S.A.F. (Ret.) of San Antonio, died at home on September 7, 2001. Known as 'Dude,' Mr. Jarosek was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, who passed away in 1998. Mr. Jarosek was born September 15, 1920 in Williamson County and was always proud of his Czech ancestry. He was raised on a farm near Taylor, where he developed a lifelong appreciation of fishing, wildlife, gardening and baseball. In 1940, Mr. Jarosek enlisted in the Army and served in World War II in Europe. He saw duty as a combat medic in Germany from 1944-45 as part of the renowned 14th Armored Division, also known as 'The Liberators,' who helped free concentration camp survivors. He was a life member of the 14th Armored Division Association and always looked forward to their reunions. Mr. Jarosek married Virginia Montagna in 1947. They had six children and for several years in the 1950s they lived in Germany. Upon retirement from the military in 1963, MSGT Jarosek began a long civil service career as a medical technician at Wilford Hall Medical Center. In his final weeks, ailing from the complications of stroke, Mr. Jarosek was comforted to know he was back in Wilford Hall. Mr. Jarosek was a member of Little Flower Parish and KJZT, a Czech fraternal group, and other organizations. Mr. Jarosek is survived by his six children, John Frank Jarosek Jr, Janis Jarosek and Jamie Jarosek Gonzalez, all of San Antonio, Joan Jarosek of Dallas, Jean E. Jarosek of Austin and Joseph Jarosek of Uvalde. He is survived by his brother, Frank Jarosek of Pinehurst, TX; sister, Helen Van Winkle of Richmond, IN, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He is survived by daughter-in-law, Tina Jarosek of Uvalde; three sons-in-law, John Browning and John Gonzalez of San Antonio and Maurice Kerins III of Dallas. Mr. Jarosek also is survived by five grandchildren whom he cherished, AnaLise Cernoch of Dallas, Zak Cernoch of San Antonio, Margarita Gonzalez of Bryan, Javier Gonzalez of Austin and Adriana Marie Jarosek of Uvalde. Mr. Jarosek and his family were deeply appreciative of the loving nursing care extended to him and his wife by Patricia Vitagliano. Rosary will be recited Monday evening at 7:00 P.M. at The Angelus Chapel. Funeral Mass will be offered Tuesday at 9:15 A.M. at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with Military Honors.
