Bio
Douglas Winchester was born in either Virginia or North Carolina. His father was: William Winchester born: 1798 in Burke Co., NC. died: ABT 1870 in Wayne Co., KY. His grandfather was: Francis Winchester born: 1765 in NC? died: Between 1850 & 1860 in Wayne Co., KY. Douglas came to Wayne Co., KY from Burke Co., NC as a young boy with his father, William, some time around 1827. 1850 census says he was born in VA. His father, William, and his grandfather, Francis, came from Burke Co., NC, when he was about 9 years old, sometime around 1828 to 1829. They settled on the Rock Creek area that is now part of McCreary Co., KY. In 1847 William sold his land on Rock Creek and moved to Hamilton Co., TN, where he was listed on 1850 census with son William age 21 born in NC and son Thomas age 20 born in KY. Douglas was married by this time and stayed in Wayne Co., KY. Probably lived around Mill Springs area. Douglas' wife, Monicia/Niecy (sp) (Spradlin) Winchester showed on 1860 census without Douglas and a child, Zenoria 6 months old and a daughter Elizabeth 1 year old. So assuming Douglas died 1858/1859, probably around Mill Springs, KY. Anyone knowing the place of burial for Douglas, William or Francis please contact me.
