Doris Elaine Rauert, 92, of Cheyenne passed away Nov. 6 at Davis Hospice Center. She was born Feb. 18, 1923, in Omaha, Neb., to Zed and Clara Fitch. She attended Grand Island Senior High School before moving to Cheyenne, where she graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1941. She married her true love, Harold "Hot Rod" Rauert on May 18, 1946, in Grand Island, Neb., and celebrated more than 64 years of marriage with her best friend. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2011. Doris was an active member of the community. She retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in January 1983. Doris had a great love for fun. She enjoyed fishing, bowling, dancing, crafts and going on cruises with her love. She took great pride in her genealogy research, creating volumes of books tracing her ancestors back to the Civil War. She received many awards as a Retired and Senior Volunteer Program member, providing more than 3,000 hours of her time to those in need. She was an upstanding member of the Eagles, Elks, Moose, Union Pacific Employees Club, American Legion and the Order of the Eastern Star Oak Leaf No. 6. Doris loved to laugh and joke as much as she loved watching scary movies and gambling. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Rauert (Steve Schwartz) of Cheyenne; son, Rex Rauert (Carol Dunagan) of Cheyenne; two grandsons, Wade Harris of Cheyenne and Michael Krow of Berthoud, Colo.; granddaughter, Shanna (Michael) Alles of Cheyenne; five great-grandchildren; one great- great-grandchild; three stepgrandchildren; and nine stepgreatgrandchildren. © Wyoming Tribune Eagle November 10, 2015
