Bio

Orem Sailor Killed In Philippines Area Loren C. Healy, F 1/c, 20, whose widow, Mrs. Lucille Rasmussen Healy, resides in Orem, was killed in action in the Philippines, Dec 18. Mr. Healy was a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Frank Healy, Orem, and was a graduate of Lincoln high school, Orem. He was a crew member of the destroyer Spence when it went down during a typhoon. He was a member of the L D S church and entered the navy in June, 1943. He was made a member of a ship's crew in September, 1943, and had participated in five major engagements. Source- The Salt Lake Tribune Sunday Morning, February 11, 1945 Per Ancestry U.S. Headstone Applications for Military Veterans, 1925-1963, the body of Loren Carson Healy was non-recoverable. KIA on 18 December 1944 (lost at sea). An application for headstone was made by his widowed wife (Lucille Healy Pedersen) in 1959 to have a headstone erected in Provo City Cemetery. There is also a memorial created in his honor in the Manila American Cemetery, Phillipines.
