An interesting but very sad letter found in the file: In considering the application of Mrs. Ellen Prather we wish to say to your honorable board, that J. L. Prather her husband was a gallant and brave soldier in Capt. R. J. Moore's Company, but after his death his wife (The Applicant) became almost a beggar or imbecile and was persuaded to marry a *man no better than a ____, who only lived with her a short time, leaving her in a worse condition than ever. And now she is unable to make a support and we recommend if possible, that her name be enlisted on the pension rolls in Class No. 4. This June 6th, 1899. - W. D. Gaines, M.D. - R. J. Moore *Note: This is in reference to her marriage in 1897 to Needman/Needham Barefield. ==========
Grave is not marked and may be near her husband James L. Prather.
