When twelve years of age, he moved with his parents to Nebraska. In 1895, the family moved to a farm near Meadville. February 23, 1896 he was united in marriage with Miss Edna J. Perkins of Halsey, Neb. To this union three children were born. A daughter, Helen Lee, died in infancy. Eighteen years ago, Mr. Gates united with the Baptist church and has been a consistent worker.
