Lee ‘Butch’ Bruhn was born Sept. 25, 1939, at Grand Island, to Homer H. and Mae V. (Reimers) Bruhn. He grew up in the Cairo area and attended rural schools there. After his schooling, Butch helped his father on the family farm. He also worked for the Wood River Alfalfa Plant for a few years. He was united in marriage to Joleen O’Brien on July 23, 1960, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island. The couple lived in Wood River. Butch worked at Wood River Rural High School as head custodian, maintenance and bus driver for 30 years. During those 30 years, Butch endeared himself to many of the students there. Butch was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wood River. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking and making his own home-made sauces that he served. Butch especially loved his family and the students whom he took to games and cheered on for many years. Butch is survived by his wife Jolene Bruhn, of Wood River, a son; Delwyn L. Bruhn, of Johnson Lake; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl A. and Glenn Husak of Wood River; and three grandchildren, Shelby Husak, Trey and wife, Desi, Husak and Keaton Husek.
