ST. ANTHONY (Columbus, Nebraska) CENTENNIAL BOOK Stanislaus Jaworski was born on March 2, 1893 in Tarnov, Nebraska to John and Julia (Drozdz) Jaworski, one of the earliest Polish families in Tarnov. He was baptized and attended school at St. Michael's in Tarnov, after which he entered St. Joseph's College, Teutopolis, Illinois, where he graduated with high honor in 1911. He entered the novitiate of the Franciscan Order on June 21, 1911, completed his theological studies at St. Louis, Missouri and was ordained a priest on June 25, 1919. Fr. Stanislaus offered his first Holy Mass in the same church, in which he had been baptized and served Mass as a boy. Fr. Stanislaus served as pastor of six different parishes and spent four years as a teacher at Quincy College before being assigned to St. Anthony's from 1941-1945. He was then assigned to St. Stanislaus in Cleveland where he was a hospital chaplain for twenty years. Fr. He was then assigned to St. Stanislaus in Cleveland where he was a hospital chaplain for twenty years. FRANCISCAN SACRED HEART PROVINCE On the 22nd of November, 1967, Father Stanislaus Jaworski, Jubilarian, died at St. Vincent Charity Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio, in the 74th year of his life, the 55th of his profession and the 48th of his priesthood. Though Father Stanislaus served as a Pastor of six different parishes in the Sacred Heart Province and spent four years as a classroom teacher, he will always be remembered for the twenty years he served as a chaplain at the various hospitals and care facilities in the city of Cleveland. He was transferred to Cleveland in 1947 and remained there until his death. A confrere, Fr. Joseph Toth wrote of him, "His services were invaluable. He had a perfect command of Polish and German. Moreover, he had acquired a good working knowledge of the sister Slav languages, Bohemian, Slovak, Ukrainian and Russian. Croatian and Slovenian were difficult; and he tackled these languages only under the urgency of necessity and when the patient spoke slowly. During these twenty years, Fr. Stanley was most devoted to his work. From the beginning he saw the necessity of visiting each morning and each evening, and he carried the burden unflinchingly. He was beloved by both patients and hospital staff. He was a man of wide reading, broad knowledge, a delightful, droll sense of humor, and intense love of Poland and the Polish people. Above all he loved the Order, the Province and his holy priesthood." Father Stanislaus was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery with his confreres after a funeral liturgy at which Auxiliary Bishop Clarence E. Elwell presided. ------------------------------------- COLUMBUS TELEGRAM OBITUARY - NOVEMBER 27, 1967 Rev. Fr.
