Bio

Harley David Fahrenholz, 90, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015 at the Bethany Home in Alexandria, Mn. Harley was born in Stanton, Ne, on October 3, 1924, to Earl and Minnie (Wittnebel) Fahrenholz. At age 10 he moved with his family to Iowa and later to Minnesota. The family's final move was to Eagle Bend on a 200 acre farm. Harley began making machines at age 19 with his invention of the Harley Rock Picker. His career started at Art Branum's machine shop in Clarissa. After inventing his first machine, however, Harley ventured out on his own and built the Harley Rock Picker Co. in Clarissa, where Cherrington Enterprise is today. The business grew, bringing new jobs to the community. At it's height, his company had 25 employees and sold machines worldwide. A midwest farmer once stated, "For the guy who invented this, there should be a special place in heaven." Harley married Helen Jelsing at Calvary Church in Alexandria. Harley had a great sense of humor and was very generous and kind. He enjoyed traveling, reading, scientific phenomena and spending time with his family, friends and dogs. He loved working with equipment and he was still coming up with new ideas. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife; 3 step-daughters; 3 sisters; 3 grandsons; 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
