Son of James Joseph O'Connell Sr. and Helena Marie Seyforth Husband of Lola Gertrude Crawford Obituary O'CONNELL-James Joseph O'Connell, 87, passed away on October 4, 2007 in Westminster, California. Born in Potosi, Missouri, February 20, 1920. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Lola Gertrude (Crawford) O'Connell, and his sister Marie (O'Connell) Finn, and brother Thomas O'Connell. He is survived by his sister Julia (O'Connell) Carlyon; daughters Theresa O'Connell, Patricia Avila and Andrea Beal; sons James O'Connell III and Daniel O'Connell; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great- great-grandchildren. A veteran of WWII, he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and Japan with the 126th Infantry regiment , 32nd Division (Red Arrow) as a mortar crewman, where he was awarded the Purple Heart, amongst other awards. He came to California in 1937, where he later worked in the grocery industry and was a member of the Retail Clerks Union 770 and, later, Retail Clerks Union 324, for over 40 years. He retired in 1980. Funeral Service Tuesday October 9, 9:30am at Westminster Memorial Park.
