He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Richard was born December 17th 1931 in Ansely, Nebraska to Dorothy Mae Brown and Charles Lee Real. He moved with his family to Weiser in 1935 at the age of four years old. He is the oldest of two children and has a younger sister, Shirley. He attended school his whole life in Weiser and was part of the first graduating class of Hooker Hall in 1950. In 1951 he joined the Navy and served as a boiler-tender during the Korean Conflict. While still serving in the Navy he received a letter from his mother letting him know she had found his future wife, Roberta Gardner. In 1954 Richard returned home to Weiser and worked several miscellaneous jobs. Richard took the missionary discussions and was baptized. Richard and Roberta were married on June 17, 1955 in Vale, Oregon, and the following year they were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. They celebrated almost 55 years together before her passing in May of 2010. They lived their whole married life in Weiser, and all but 5 years in their current home. He went to work for Benson and Bates for 13 years before starting his own business as Richard Real Heating and Plumbing. They were the parents of seven children, six boys and one girl. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had various church callings throughout his life. When he joined the church he said he wouldn't do two things, talk in church and teach. He later served in a bishopric and was a great gospel doctrine teacher. Richard had several passions in life and his family was his greatest. He was an avid outdoors-man and shared his passion with his children and grandchildren. They went camping, fishing and hunting together often. He was also part of a local bowling league for a number of years. He knew the value of work and started working his boys in his business when they reached the age of 8. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jason, his granddaughter Erin and wife Mickey. He is survived by his sister, Shirley Grass; 6 children, Rick, Ron and his wife Renae of Orem, Robert and his wife Melissa of Weiser, Scott and his wife Sandye of Weiser, Louis and his wife Bobbie of Kuna and daughter Janna of Orem; 20 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
