Translated transcription from the Cechoslovak and Westske Noviny, West, Texas, Volume 32, No. 41, Edition 1, Friday, Oct. 8, 1943, p. 4 Ennis Vestnik: Translation: On Saturday night, one of the oldest settlers, John Patak, Sr., died here at the age of 70 after a long illness. Deceased was born in Luzkovice in Moravia on May 16, 1873 and immigrated to America with his parents at the age of 12. Deceased was a founding member of the association St. Josef K.J.T. here. His body was moved on Monday morning to St. Joseph Cemetery for the services of Rev. Fr. Kowalski, who was assisted by Rev. V. Pechal of Kaufman. Pallbearers were his nephews, F.W. Patak, F.A. Patak, Stanley V. Patak, Rudolf Patak, Joe R. Patak, and Adolf Patak. He leaves behind a grieving wife, nee Filomena Dlabajova, whom he married in 1896 here in Ennis, two daughters, Frantiska Patakova and Mrs. Charlie Galetkova, and six sons, Joe, Frank A., Karel, Stanley, of Ennis, Willie W. Patak of Dallas and Pfc. Emil E. Patak, serving in the Army in Los Angeles, Calif., and one brother, Rudolf Patak in Dallas. His funeral was attended by the families of Rudolf Patak, Joe Dlabaj, John Dlabaj, Charlie Dlabaj, Leslie Janovsky, all of Dallas, Mrs. W. J. Leonard of Brownwood, Pvt. Joe S. Patak of Fort Will, Okla., Pfc. Emil Patak of Los Angeles, Calif., and his son-in-law, Pvt. Charlie Galetka from Florida was unable to come. Night John Patak, 70, pioneer and prosperous farmer of the Ennis community, passed away at 11:45 o'clock Saturday night at his home on the Creechville Road east of Ennis, where he had resided for thirty four yeas. He had been sick for six months. Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Monday morning at the St. John's Church on South Paris Street with the pastor, the Rev. Father F. Kowalski officiating. Rev. Kowalski was assisted by Father W. Pecal of Kaufman. Interment was made in the St. John's Cemetery with J.E. Keever in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were F.W. Patak, F.A. Patak, Stanley V. Patak, Joe R. Patak and Adolph Patak, Rudolph Patak, all nephews of the deceased. Mr. Patak was born May 16, 1873 in Luskovic, Czechoslovakia and came to America with his parents when he was 12 years of age. He was married here in 1896 to Miss Philomina Dlabaj, who, with eight children survives, two daughters, Miss Frances Patak and Mrs. Charles Gaetka, both of the home address, and six sons, Joe, Frank A., Charley and Stanley Patak, all of Ennis, Willie W. Patak of Dallas and Pfc. Emil E. Patak of Dallas and Pfc. Emil E. Patak with the U.S. Army stationed in Los Angeles, Calif. Mr. Patak is also survived by a brother, Rudolph Patak of Dallas and 18 grandchildren. Mr. Patak was founder and organizer of the K.J.T. Lodge and was manager for many years. He was also a member of the St. John Catholic Church. Out of town relatives and friends here were Mr. and Mrs. Rudolf Patak and family, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dlabaj, Mr. and Mrs. John Dlabaj, Mr and Mrs. Charles Dlabaj, Mrs. Willie Taraba, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Jansky of Dallas; S-Sgt. and Mrs. W.J. Leonard of Brownwood, Pvt. Joe S. Patak of Fort Sill, Okla., Pfc. Emil Patak of Los Angeles, Calif., Pvt. Charles Galetka, son-in-law was unable to get there from Tampa, Fla., where he is stationed with the Army Air Corps.
