Franklin Democrat, Friday, 27 December 1901, pg 1 ELECTRIC WIRE – Shoots Fatal Current Through Vincent Bohall at Indianapolis. Shortly after 6 o’clock Tuesday night, George Vincent Bohall came in contact with a live electric wire at the corner of Madison ave. and McCarty- st. and was almost instantly killed. The wire was a guy wire and a horse had come in contact with it and had fallen. A crowd soon gathered around, several persons receiving slight shocks as they accidentally touched the wire. Bohall, who happened along, attempted to go around the crowd. He touched the wire with his hand and forehead. He fell quivering in the sidewalk and expired in a few minutes. A physician was called and efforts were made to revive him but without success. His body was removed to the city morgue where it was viewed by the coroner. Mrs. Bohall and her daughter were soon summoned and in their frenzy and excitement were, with difficulty, prevented from touching the wire before the current had been turned off. Bohall is well known in this city where he lived the greater part of his life. He was about sixty years old and leaves a widow and three children, a married daughter and a son and daughter who live at home. Bohall has had a somewhat checkered career in the past. One of the most noted incidents in his life was his trial many years ago on the charge of murder. The crime was committed in the ally in the rear of the lot on which the DEMOCRAT is located. He was defended by R. M. Miller and H. C. Barnett on the plea of self-defense. Contrary to expectations he was acquitted to the charge of murder, the jury returning a verdict of assault and battery with two dollars fine. ONE OF THE STORIES REGARDING THE PREVIOUS ASSAULT MENTIONED IN ABOVE ARTICLE The Indianapolis Journal – 1 Sep 1889, Sun. pg 5 KILLED IN A SALOON FIGHT – An Indianapolis Man Assaulted by a Franklin Tough and Stabbed Several Times A fight took place in the saloon of Hellerick & Wilson, in Franklin, last night, in which William Perkinson, of 234 South Tennessee street, this city, and Vincent Bohall of Franklin, were participants. Perkinson was cut with a knife in the right shoulder, and on the body in several places. He cannot recover from his injuries, and friends in Franklin telegraphed relatives of Perkinson to come and look after him. Both parties were drunk. An examination of Perkinson’s wounds shows that he was stabbed in the back and top of the neck, the knife-blade passing under the collar-bone into the pleural cavity of the lungs, severing an artery, causing hemorrhage. Special policeman Lawhorn made an attempt to arrest Bohall, the murderer, who seized the club of the policeman and made an attempt to strike him, when Lawhorn fired at him twice, the first shot taking effect just over Bohall’s right eye and the second in the left hip inflicting only slight wounds. He made his escape down a back alley, and was met by his brother, and both started out of town in a buggy in a western direction. ---------- The Franklin Republican, Friday, 11 April 1902, pg 8 Martin Sellers has been appointed administrator and filed bond with the clerk of the Marion circuit court as such for the estate of the late Vincent Bohall, who was killed a few months ago by a live electric wire on the streets at Indianapolis. The wire instead of a loose one as was reported was a brace wire which had become charged with electricity. A suit will be filed for $10,000 damages against the company with Miller & Barnett as attorneys. ---------- MARRIAGE- Illinois, Marriage Index, 1860-1920 Vincent Bohall married 'Santha Mumford' on 2 Jul 1880 in Pulaski, IL ---------- 1900 U.S. Census of Franklin, Johnson, Indiana Vincent Bohall 58; wife, Iantha 38; Children: Lela M. 16; Myrtle 14; Edgar L. 13 ------------ The U.S.Civil War Records and Profiles 1861-1865 records that Vincent Bohall enlisted in Company B 22nd Infantry Regiment on 15 August 1861, and mustered out on 9 June 1865.
