GEORGE COONROD JAN 18, 1921 George Coonrad succumbed to the infirmities of age on Jan. 18, 1921, having reached the remarkable age of 103 yr, 11 mo. 7 da. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Lane, where he had been taken when his physical powers filed. Previous to that he had lived alone in his cabin on "Bloody Run". He was born in Penn. on Feb. 11, 1817, and came to Iowa at an early age. His father lived to be 112 year of age, and one brother, John yet survives. His daughters survive as well, Mrs. Hoisington, Mrs. Ryan; Mrs. George Lane and Mrs. Alanzo Lane; 15 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday from the M.E. church, conducted by Rev. W. Minon Lemon. Interment was at Oak Hill cemetery. Manchester Democrat, Wednesday, Jan.26, 1921 Page 9 DIES T NEARLY 104 YEARS George Coonrod was born in Pennsylvania, February 11, 1817, and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Lane, east of town on January 18, 1921, aged 103 years, 11 months and 7 days. he family moved here in the early day, and his father passed away several years ago at the age of 112 years. His wife preceded him in death thirteen years ago. Surviving are one brother, John Coonrod, four daughters, Mrs. Hoisington, Mrs. Ryan, Mrs. George lane and Mrs. Alonzo Lane, fifteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Rev W. Minor Lemen had charge of the funeral services, which were held form the M.E. Church Wednesday. Burial will be made in Oak Hill Cemetery. Carrie - died age 21 days, buried Oak Hill For inexplicable reasons, the family surname of George Coonrod seems to have fluctuated between being Coonrod and Conrad. And, although his headstone records his year of birth as 1820 and his death record has it as 1817, census records indicate he was actually born about 1834, and like his father before him, just embellished his age as he grew older.
