Bio

Jane Smith married James Owen in Fayette, Tennessee, November 15, 1838. The 1850 census has Jane Owen, 28, born in North Carolina, living in Bastrop County, Texas, with James Owen, 30, a farmer born in Alabama, and Owen children: Thomas J., 10 Rebecca J., 8; Melissa A., 6; James, 4; and Jonathan, 2. Jonathan was born in Texas, all the other children were born in Tennessee. Living on either side are the households headed by John Owen, 27, born in Alabama, and Ezekiel Owen, 21, born in Tennessee. The 1860 census has Jane R. Owens [Owen], 39, born in North Carolina, living near the town of Bastrop, in Bastrop County, Texas, with children: Thomas J., 20; Rebecca, 18; Milica [Melissa], 17; James, 14; Jonathan, 12; Zecial [Ezekiel?], 12; Edward, 8; John, 5; and Mary, 2. Jonathan and younger children were born in Texas, the older children were born in Tennessee.
