Clifford "Warren" Coon RAPID CITY - Clifford "Warren" Coon passed away May 11, 2003 in the hospital at age 96. He was born October 23, 1906 in Vivian, S.D. to Sam and Grace Coon. After graduation from the Vivian High School, he came to Rapid City to attend the School of Mines and attended 2 years. The family moved to Rapid City the following year. He met Rose Shavlik and married her in 1930. In 1941 when the war began Warren went to work at the Remington Arms Defense Plant in Denver, Colorado. The family remained in Denver until 1949 when Warren purchased the machine shop. To became Coon's Machine Shop and ran a successful business until his retirement after 50 years. The main fun activity through their life was dancing. Square dancing until he was 80, then back to ballroom dancing until almost 90. Warren was a life member of the Elks Club and had the longest membership of club 1187. He is survived by his 3 children and 7 grandchildren. Preceded in death was his wife of 72 years and all other siblings and one grandson. There will be a visitation Wed. May 14th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 15. 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park. Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
