Bio

Marvin Jesse Hopper, age 79 of Willow, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2005 at his home. Jesse was born to Frank and Beatrice (Flynn) Hopper on May 19, 1926 on the family farm at Brinkman, Oklahoma. He attended his school years at Eastview and Brinkman, leaving there to serve his country from November 9, 1944 to May 16, 1947 during WWII, being stationed several places including a tour of duty in the Phillpines. While stationed at Ft. Campbell in Louisville, Kentucky, he and Juanita McGee were united in marriage on July 31, 1946 and after his Honorable Discharge from the Army, he returned to the farm north of Willow for several years. Jesse left farming to go to work in the propane business. He served several years as Manager, LP Gas Inspector and ended his career in 1991 as the Administrator of the Oklahoma LP Gas Commission. After retirement, he and Juanita moved to Willow where Jesse served as Commander of the American Legion until his health began to fail. Jesse also served as Mayor of Willow. Jesse was a lifelong domino player and proudly displayed many championship trophies won on the local, state and national level. During his children's school years, Jesse served on the school board at Ocina School and he and Juanita were class parents of the class of 1955. He was also a member of the Mangum Mounties and attended playdays all around the state with his children. During his lifetime, Jesse saw his lifelong dream of having a flagpole at the cemetery at Willow and flags displayed on the servicemen's graves on Memorial Day come true. He took the responsibility of placing the flags each holiday until bad health required him to pass this duty down to his grandson, Brent. Jesse made friends wherever he went and if you knew him, you loved him. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, two brothers and three grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Juanita, of the home; three sons, Butch Hopper and wife Susie, Eugene Hopper, and Doyle Hopper and wife Lisa; two daughters, Teresa Hopper Williams and husband Jim and Sandy Hopper Payne and husband David; eighteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren along with numerous other relatives and a host of many, many friends. Funeral services for Jesse Hopper will be on Thursday, December 1, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Mangum First Baptist Church with Rev. Will Roberts and Rev. Arol Steverson officiating. Interment will follow at the Willow Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum. Online tributes to the family of Jesse Hopper may be sent to www.GreerFuneral.com
