Bio

In the January 1, 1925 Census for Ottumwa, Iowa, Marion stated that his parents were Uries Hastings and Becky Denton. His name has been incorrectly transcribed as Marian in the record in ancestry.com. By clicking on the actual record, it can be seen that his name was spelled correctly as Marion. Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” March 28, 1957: Marion Hasting. Marion Hasting, 94, died at 7:15 a.m. today at the home of his son, Ted Hasting, 608 Pershing avenue. He was born March 14, 1863, at Lovington, Ill. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Fred McMaster of Chester; two son, Ted and Frank Hasting, both of Ottumwa; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a half-sister, Mrs. Eva Ream of Ottumwa and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada, June 27, 1948, a son and two daughters. The body is at the Johnson funeral chapel awaiting completion of arrangements. “Hasting Services,” From “Ottumwa Courier,” March 29, 1957: Funeral services for Marion Hasting, 94, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Johnson funeral chapel. The Rev. Paul Belger, pastor of the Church of God at Bunch and the Rev. R.N. Coolige, pastor of the First Church of God of Ottumwa, will be in charge. He died at 7:15 a.m. Thursday at the home of his son, Ted Hasting of 608 Pershing avenue. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery.
