J.D. James, 92 of Woodville, passed away Friday, August 7, 2015 at Woodville Health & Rehab Center in Woodville, Texas. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 9, 2015 from 5:00-7:00pm at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville. Graveside services will be held Monday, August 10, 2015 at 10:00am at Magnolia Cemetery in Woodville. Officiating will be Dr. Colin Bullard. J.D. was born January 27, 1923 to Frank Marion & Mattie Laverna Cain James in Leesville, Louisiana. He was a longtime resident of Woodville and was retired supervisor from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company with over 39 years of service. He was a WWII U.S. Marine veteran staged in the Pacific Theatre and served in the mock invasion of Iwo Jima. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Woodville. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Evelyn Rasberry James on November 18, 2005; his parents, Frank & Mattie James; brother, F.M. James; son-in-law, Jack Wayne Smith; and granddaughter, Kristin Lynn Smith. He is survived by his son, Derold James of Woodville; daughters, Barbara Smith of Fred, and Elaine Tubb of Woodville; grandchildren, David Gardner & wife Meryl, Kelly Gardner, Dayna James, Misty Cooley, and Krista James; great grandchildren, Trent Gardner and Ross Gardner; great-great granddaughter, Emma Claire Gardner; sisters-in-law, Jimmie Cooley and Lolly James; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. J.D. loved to tell his stories and would tell them over and over to anyone willing to listen. He loved his family very much and will be missed by many. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Woodville Health & Rehab for their excellent care. Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.
