Bio

George Summer Spann, Sr., of Ennis died on Wednesday, August 5, 2015. He was born June 28, 1934, in Munday, Texas, to Oscar Holder and Bera Bowden Spann. Mr. Spann married his high school sweetheart, Patsy Lain, on July 27, 1957. They were married 58 years. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Lain Spann; one son, George Summer Spann, Jr., and wife Sandy of Grapevine; Sheryl Spann Sandling of Ennis; three grandchildren, Stacey and Jared Spann and Ryan Sandling; one sister, Bera Spann Johnson of Abilene. Preceding him death were his parents, Oscar and Bera Spann, and infant daughter, Sharla Sue Spann, one brother, Oscar Holder Spann, Jr., and one sister, Elizabeth Janette Spann Link. George was a graduated of Munday High School and Texas Tech University. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Leary from 1952-1954 as an electrician’s mate. From 1960 until 1999 he was employed with LTV Aerospace (Lockheed Martin). He was the Lead Electrician Design Engineer on the B2 Stealth Bomber. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ennis having served in various leadership capacities. His life was guided in the Word of God and he strived to be Christ-like in all his ways. He exhibited soft-spoken mannerisms and a generous heart to needy persons. He was a loyal and loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and man of God. Funeral services for Mr. Spann will be Friday afternoon, August 7, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Ennis. Visitation will be prior to the service at the church beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Johnson Memorial Cemetery in Munday, Texas, on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 1 p.m.
