Bio

Funeral services for Ed Eakin, 76, of Slaton were held yesterday (Wednesday, May 20) in First Baptist Church with Pastor Cleve Kerby officiating. Burial followed in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. Eakin died Monday in Slaton Care Center. He was born April 25, 1939 in Burleson. He moved with his family to Wilson as a child and graduated from Wilson High School in 1958. He married the former Rose Marie Custer in 1958. He worked as a Lineman for South Plains Electric Coop and later for Lubbock County Maintenance Department, retiring on May 21, 2014. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Eakin was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra “Trudy” Kitten, and a son, Eddie Eakin. Survivors include his wife, Rose of the home; a son, Robby and wife Judie Eakin of Slaton; a daughter, Sherri and husband John Bates of Casper, Wyo.; a brother, Durwood Eakin of Lake Whitney; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren
